Mr. Vijitha Yapa is the President of the Sri Lanka Book Publishers' Association which organizes the Colombo International Book Fair which attracts over 2 million visitors. The Association awards over rupees one million for the best Novel the Swarna Pushtaka award.
He is the Chairman of the Vijitha Yapa Group of Companies. Vijitha Yapa Publications is the largest publisher of English books in Sri Lanka while there are 9 branches of their bookshops in various parts of Sri Lanka.
He is the Founder Editor of 3 national newspapers including the Sunday Times. He is the author of 4 books on Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He directed the first ever feature film "Fridom" in pidgin English in Papua New Guinea. He is a well known journalist whose articles have appeared in newspapers around the world including the Wall Street Journal and the International Herald Tribune. He was the Sri Lanka Correspondent of The Times, UK.
He began his career in journalism with Himmat Weekly whose Chief Editor was Rajmohan Gandhi, Grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
