Prof. A Biju Kumar currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, University of Kerala and Director, Centre for Global Academics, University of Kerala, Former Dean, Faculty of Science and Director of Research, the areas of research of research include ecology of aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity and taxonomy. Dr Biju is the member of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) and in various expert committees related to policy formulation in biodiversity and environmental issues. Trained in various countries including Czech Academy of Sciences, Mexican Academy of Sciences, Adelaide University and University of Guelph, Canada. Winner of Young Scientist Award by STEC and Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences, Good Service Entry from Government of Kerala, highest research grant award from University of Kerala and 10 best paper presentation awards. Over 25 years of teaching and research experience. Served as Scientific Officer in State Committee on Science, Technology and Environment (STEC), Govt. of Kerala, Principal Scientific Officer and Member Secretary (in-charge), Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Nodal Officer of National Green Corps, the school ecoclub scheme of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. A science communicator and environment educator, he has published more than 150 research papers, 25 books and over 300 popular articles.
