Theatre resonates with the effective usage of space and the reducing cultural space for promoting these makes it endemic, agreed the panellists at the session on Space and Theatre at the SPACES Fest. The panel discussion featured, Dr. Venu IAS, Prasanth Narayanan and E. Rajarajeshwari, moderated by Raja Warrior.
Prasanth Narayanan highlighted the contrasts in the Western and Eastern style of theatre presentation. According to him space must be given for thoughts, which must then be efficiently portrayed through the limited space a stage offers.
The decrease in reducing cultural spaces was pointed out by E. Rajarajeshwari. She added by saying that this would reduce the bond that people cultivated through these social gatherings. The mention of Sthreendakavedi was a refreshing take on the subject, bringing in the flavour of gender representation in theatre.
According to Dr.V.Venu, space in theatre is the relation between audience and the artists. The session concluded on a positive note when the panellists discussed the gaining importance of theatre in urban spaces.
