Cinema talkies was a secular space for exchange of ideas and thoughts. Generation of numerous thought-provoking insights, settlement of local disputes and the spirit and vibrance of the locale fills the talkies as a social space. "More than watching film, it was a togetherness. More of a culture." said Bina Paul, one among the panelists of Abhilash Talkies: Sociology of Entertainment spaces in Yesteryears. Madhupal and P.K Rajashekharan were the other two panelists, who spoke about the cultural transition from cinema talkies to theatre to multiplex.
P.K Rajashekharan spoke about the life inside a traditional cinema talkies. How secular the space was and how less business minded were the people then. While Madhupal threw insights about cinema being space of a dreamer, Bina Paul pointed out how gruesome the multiplex culture is.
Pradeep Panangad, the moderator of the session framed perceptive questions which lead to a riveting one hour discussion. Later, Cinema Sandharbhangal a book written by P.R Rajashekharan on film culture was released on stage by Dr Bina Paul and Madhupal.
