In a panel discussion on the dynamics of the shared spaces, MA Baby, Indrans and Aristo Suresh interacted with the audience on the community hotspots that used to be. In the age of smartphones, are these spaces losing its relevance or thriving well in the microcosmic climate it offers was the key point in focus of the session moderated KV Madhu.
Pondering upon the magnitude of the spaces that unconsciously define us, M.A.Baby, Indrans and Suresh, recalled their memories from these spaces. The discussion among the contemporaries, derived a perspective about these spaces that instilled a unique cultural sensibility and shaped their political views.
The vaayanshala or reading rooms, the chayakada or the teashops and the toddy bars offered a cultural space in a microcosm. The panelists also pointed the recent decline in the participation of people in festivals and other community activities.
The discussion ended rephrasing the relevance of these spaces, which were a way of looking out at the world which could be overlooked as least democratic, which still upholds an inbred democratic representation.
